Hi Beautilicious:

How are you? Many people had asked me if they should use bar soap to cleanse the face.  Here are three reasons why you shouldn’t.

Reason #1

Our skin is acidic while soap is alkaline based.

A little confused?

Your skin’s natural barrier is made up of acid mantle. What is acid mantel?  The acid mantle is a very fine, slightly acidic film on the surface of human skin acting as a barrier to bacteria, virusus and other potential contaminants that might penetrate the skin.  It is secreted by sebaceous glands. The pH of the skin is between 4.5 and 6.2 slightly acidic.

What is ph?  A measure of hydrogen ion concentration; a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution.

pH scale shows 7, it is neutral. Anything below that is acidic and above it is alkaline. Our skin’s pH balance is generally between 4 and 6.5, even when the skin is very oily. Soap on the other hand is extremely alkaline and goes towards the other extreme. So if you use soap on your skin it messes with its pH balance and acid mantle, causing it to make skin conditions worse.

Reason #2

Soap makes your skin super dry.

Even if your skin is oily it doesn’t mean you can use it. Soap strips the skin of its naural oils and makes it tight and dry. Washing your face with soap is like washing it with dishwashing detergent or clothes detergent.

Reason #3

Soap damages your skin

When you use a face wash suited for your skin type, you should verify it contains ingredients that are required to keep your skin looking its best. Although soap is used to clean your body it doesn’t mean it is good for your face. Remember, your face is more sensitive than your body.  Keep the soap away from your face and invest in a good quality face wash instead.

Remember, you are beautiful no matter what.
