With this cold weather the skin can take a toll if it is not being taken care of. I would like to suggest a few things you can do to treat your body with LOVE. This is very cheap and you don’t have to spend a fortune. I recommend using Coconut oil, and you thought coconut oil was for baking only. Coconut oil is so trendy these days from taming frizz to moisturizing dry skin. Coconut oil strengthen weak hair, heal dry skin, it can also be used to decelerate the premature graying process. When buying coconut oil make sure it has not been bleached, refined, no fragrance or dye added to it.
Why is Coconut Oil good?
Coconut oil recondition dry damaged hair because the molecular structure of coconut oil penetrates the hair shaft, getting past the cuticle, repairing and preventing damage from the inside out. You can find the following fatty acids in coconut oil:
Lauric acid, capric acid and cuprylic acid: These fatty acids have strong disinfectant and antimicrobial properties as a result when applied on the skin, coconut oil protects from microbial infections that can get into open wounds or enter the body through the pores.
Vitamin E is essential for healthy skin growth, repair of wear and tear on the skin keeping skin smooth and protecting against cracking. Above all it prevents premature aging and wrinkling of the skin, since it has good antioxidant properties.
Coconut oil also has saturated fats. These saturated fats are medium chain fatty acids or tryglycerides when applied to the skin. They keep it smooth. Due to these fats, coconut oil retains the moisture content of the skin as the fats eliminate moisture loss through the pores of the skin.
Now that we know why coconut oil is good lets see where you can use it.
Lips– our lips are twice more susceptible to cold. Lips do not have oil producing glands. they do not get any supply of oil or moisture during cold. 1/2 tsp of coconut oil and apply to the lips to keep it moisturized. You can also buy a small travel size container and store the oil in it and keep in the pocketbook.
Skin Softner-The dry cold air results in dehydrating the skin. That is why we should apply coconut oil to hydrate and moisturize the body. Coconut oil will keep the skin soft. 1 tbsp coconut oil, emulsify oil between palms until warm and melted and apply to skin or melt down the coconut oil and add to your favorite lotions and creams before applying. Store the coconut oil in a jar and leave by your night table.
Cracked Feet- With the arrival of winter days many people start having the problems of dry skin, chapped lips and also cracked heels. The crack in the feet will not vanish, but coconut oil will make the feet softer within days. you can also apply a few drops of lavender and rub on your feet. Lavender helps kill bacteria. 1 tsp of coconut oil, add a few drops of lavender and apply to the affected area. Store the coconut oil and lavender in a jar.
Makeup Remover– If you are worried about harsh chemicals getting into your skin use coconut oil as a makeup remover. 1/2 tsp. coconut oil and remove makeup with a cotton ball. Wash off in warm water. Store the coconut oil in a glass jar.
Shaving with coconut oil– Shaving creams, foam and gels all are full of toxic chemicals. Coconut oil is a healthier alternative that work just as well and are safe for highly sensitive areas. This method is best used with wet shaving after the skin has been run under warm water to soften the skin. Coconut oil will give you a smooth close shave. 3 tbsp of coconut oil and apply enough to coat skin and shave as usual.
Hair Mask – For over processed, heat damaged or is just naturally dry. 1/2 cup of warm coconut oil and apply all over the hair. Put a shower cap to lock in that coconut and allow the oil to sit on your hair for 20-30 minutes or you can leave it in over night. Wash the hair. You can do this hair mask once or twice a week. Store the mask in the jar.
Detangle Hair- If the hair is still not tangle free after using your conditioner try using coconut oil as a detangler. 1/2 tsp of coconut oil and apply on the ends of the hair after showering as a detangler and moisturizer for very dry hair. Store the coconut oil in a glass bottle.
Cuticle Oil- To keep germs at bay and loosen up cuticles use coconut oil. Rub a small amount of oil on the cuticles making them easier to push back.
Dry Hands- The cold weather and washing dishes can take a toll on the skin. Rub a small amount on the hands to moisturize. Keep a jar by the sink.
Premature Gray Hair– The growth of hair occurs in successive stages. At a certain point of time, some hair strands are at the resting stage, while others are growing. At the base of hairs, follicles are present that contain a pigment called melanin. This pigment is responsible for imparting color to the hairs. Gray hair is a result of insufficient pigment present in the hair follicles, while absence of the melanin pigment causes white hair. When white hair and dark hair are mixed, the scalp color appears to be gray. Apply a small amount of coconut oil and massage the scalp each night before going to bed and wash the next day.
Remember, you are beautiful no matter what.
